Jean Alexander: Becoming Hilda

Born Jean Hodgkinson in 1926, she went on to become one of the most beloved characters of our longest running TV soap, and it all started here in Macclesfield.

Jean Alexander’s professional acting career began with the Adelphi Theatre Guild who had their base in the town and toured the North West.

Packed full of photographs illustrating her life and work, this display recounts the story that led her to play Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street.
