Exhibition - The Silk Museum

Inspired By India

Celebrating UK/India year of culture, artist Nikki Parmenter has worked with local community groups and schools to illustrate the colour and imagery of the countries’ creative relationship.

The exhibition also explores the work of Macclesfield’s Thomas Wardle who helped teach artist William Morris about natural dyes – both men’s work being ‘inspired by India’.

Nikki’s centre-piece is the ‘Silk Peacock’, the national bird of India, which incorporates Indian symbolism, Wardle’s designs and Morris’ patterns.  We invite you to join us and design your own peacock feather to add to the artwork.  Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
