Costume Mounting Training Day

“As part of the Macclesfield Stripe Project I was asked to deliver a costume mounting training day to staff and volunteers at the museum.

The aim was to prepare garments from the collection for display in our September exhibition, and to equip staff with the skills to put on further costume exhibitions in the future.

Using conservation grade materials we padded up the mannequins to fit each individual dress, adding bespoke petticoats and arm forms where necessary. Any item of historic dress is at its most vulnerable when on display, so making sure the dresses are adequately supported and displayed in their best light is essential in museum exhibitions.”

Come and see the collection up close, have a chat and discover all the types of mending I have completed as part of this project at the special exclusive Friends Members Preview Evening on Friday 17th September, 6 – 7pm.
